8/08/24 Vulnerable Mets veteran thinks team would be 'foolish' to let him go. New York Mets pitcher Adam Ottavino could be squeezed out by teammates coming off the IL. (AP Photo/Adam Hunger) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com The Mets bullpen doesn't look the same way it did at the start of the season. The only opening-day relievers still on the active roster are Edwin Díaz and Adam Ottavino. But the latter's days could be numbered as Reed Garrett and Sean Reid Foley prepare to come off the injured list. 8/07/24 Ex-Rockies reliever Adam Ottavino doesn't know how much longer he'll pitch. But he does know what baseball job he wants next. The former Rockies reliever, now with the Mets, is 38 years old and will be a free agent at the end of the season. “This is the first year I've had to face the facts that I'm probably a lot closer to the end than I realized,” Ottavino said. Tommy Lasorda, who won four pennants and a pair of World Series in 21 years helming the Dodgers, is the most notable exception.

8/01/24 Breaking down Mets' revamped bullpen ahead of stretch run. When the Mets open a series in Anaheim on Friday, they will start August with a bullpen that has one — one — holdover from their July 1 bullpen. Adam Ottavino is the lone survivor in a unit that David Stearns continues to build on the fly. Stearns has been known for swapping relievers in bullpens that become living things, and he has lived up to his reputation in Year 1 in Queens. Back at the start of July, Ottavino was surrounded by Ty Adcock (who has since been released), Jake Diekman (designated for assignment), Matt Festa (released), Reed Garrett (injured), Adrian Houser (released), Tyler Jay (DFA'd and traded) and Dedniel Nunez (injured). 4 David Stearns has lived up to his reputation of

7/23/24 Delayed flight leads to sleepless night for Mets before Subway Series opener at Yankee Stadium. By the time the bleary-eyed New York Mets finally got back to Citi Field early Tuesday morning, Adam Ottavino was so tired he didn't bother to go home. Ottavino and teammate Harrison Bader headed for the Mets' sleep room inside the ballpark, where they closed their eyes and caught some ZZZZs. “Had my wife come pick me up when it was convenient,” Ottavino said at Yankee Stadium before the Subway Series opener Tuesday night. Following a 6-4 victory Monday night over the Marlins in the finale of a four-game series, the Mets got delayed flying out of Miami.

6/02/24 Ex-Yankees High-Leverage Reliever Expected To Be Traded; Reunion Makes Sense. One former member of the New York Yankees is expected to be traded over the next few months. The New York Mets had high expectations heading into the 2024 season and haven't been able to live up to them so far. New York has underperformed and seems to be approaching its second straight trade deadline in which it will be sellers. The Mets have plenty of intriguing players who could be moved and one player who likely will be dealt is former Yankees reliever Adam Ottavino, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

5/22/24 Mets get swept out of Cleveland by Guardians – but beat up dugout items along the way. Coolers and electronics are apparently no match for the Mets bullpen — but the Cleveland Guardians were, as they swept the Amazin's in the finale of a three-game set, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Progressive Field. After giving up back-to-back RBI doubles in the 8th inning to give the Guardians a three-run edge, Mets reliever Adam Ottavino took out his frustration on an iPad, slamming it down in the Mets dugout in disgust.

5/09/24 Adam to Mets TV booth?. Mets hurler Adam Ottavino was the Mets' most dependable relief pitcher in April, and that includes closer Edwin Diaz. At age 38, Ottavino is showing a veteran can learn new things. While he has no immediate plans to call it a career, Ottavino knows he is one of the oldest current players, and a post-baseball life is near. It is rare for a current player to take part in a sports opinion show like “Baseball Night in New York,” especially with the advent of social media where every slip of the tongue is magnified.

5/02/24 Mets reliever says he was 'spooked' last season. New York Mets pitcher Adam Ottavino. AP By Bridget Hyland | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com The Mets brought back Adam Ottavino this offseason, and he's been an impressive and essential part of the team's bullpen. 5/01/24 Adam Ottavino continues eye-popping start to season for Mets after 2022 struggles. Adam Ottavino had another regular night at the park on Wednesday night, pitching a scoreless eighth inning, striking out a pair — and allowing a stolen base. It was his ninth consecutive scoreless — and hitless — appearance and continued an eye-popping first month of the season for the right-hander, who entered the game with 15.2 strikeouts per nine innings, a miniscule 0.416 WHIP and a drastic reduction in walks compared with most of his career. And since giving up runs in his first two appearances of the season, he's gone 34 straight batters without allowing a hit — although his latest outing came in a 1-0 loss to the Cubs. 2/21/24 Mets' Adam Ottavino overhauling pickoff move to combat pitch-clock changes. PORT ST. LUCIE — Adam Ottavino spent the offseason studying doubles prevention. In this case, it meant working on a better pickoff move to first base that would help stop opponents from turning a single or walk into a double. Last season, the Mets reliever struggled holding base runners, following MLB's implementation of the pitch clock. New York Mets relief pitcher Adam Ottavino is working on his pickoff move. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Ottavino could no longer just hold the ball or step off the rubber repeatedly to upset the runner's timing. The veteran right-hander discovered he was moving his hands before the rest of his body, costing himself tenths-of-a-second in his pickoff throws. Explore

2/14/24 Mets Notebook: Why Adam Ottavino returned, Ronny Mauricio officially on 60-day IL. Adam Ottavino never shut the door on a return to the Mets. With a new regime taking over and an option that would have deferred much of his 2024 salary, the veteran right-hander felt it best to test the free agent market. “It was never not on the radar,” Ottavino told the Daily News on Wednesday at Clover Park. Initially, the Mets didn't show much interest in Ottavino.

2/05/24 Grading the Mets' Adam Ottavino signing. After making a bevvy of small signings and building a big heap of NRIs to churn, the Mets finally made a more substantial bullpen reinforcement and brought back Adam Ottavino on a one-year, $4.5M deal. It's one of the odder deals of the offseason for sure; Ottavino originally opted out of his $6.75M player option earlier this offseason—it's worth noting that a good chunk of that money was going to be deferred—and has cited uncertainty on the direction of the team as one of the primary reasons for that decision. Despite those and a handful of other thinly-veiled criticisms throughout the offseason, the 38-year-old right hander will now rejoin the late-inning mix for the Mets.

1/31/24 Mets bring back reliever Ottavino on 1-year deal. Adam Ottavino and the Mets finalized a $4.5 million, one-year contract Tuesday that keeps the veteran reliever with his hometown team. Ottavino spent the past two seasons with the Mets, going 1-7 with a 3.21 ERA and a career-best 12 saves in 66 appearances last year. The star closer has recovered from knee surgery, and Ottavino figures to be perhaps his primary setup man again as part of a relief corps that also includes left-hander Brooks Raley, right-hander Drew Smith and newcomer Jorge López.
