9/03/24 DJ LeMahieu error leads to late Rangers rally as Clay Holmes, Yankees implode. ARLINGTON, Texas — With the New York Yankees holding a 4-1 lead in the eighth inning on Tuesday, a costly — and ugly — DJ LeMahieu error let the Texas Rangers back in the game. The blunder saw LeMahieu drop a chopped ground-ball right on top of first base. It should have been an easy out, but the Rangers’ Josh Smith reached safely after hurdling Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle, who slid as he ...

8/28/24 Yankees can't 'play nice' if they want to win it all, says radio host. If Yankees want to win a World Series, infielder DJ LeMahieu must go, says WFAN host. (Pamela Smith, AP) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com For going on six seasons, DJ LeMahieu has been considered a good Yankee. Through good times and, most recently, bad, he's kept his head down, played hard and given it his all between the white lines. But with the Yankees competing for their first World Series since 2009, their 28th in franchise history, the club can't afford to continue carrying him on the roster. That's what WFAN host Shaun Morash said on Wednesday. MORE YANKEES COVERAGE Yankees' prospect is 'one' to keep an 'eye on' for playoff impact Did Yankees legend throw 'Shade on (Aaron)

8/27/24 3 Yankees ready for breakout September ahead of playoffs. The New York Yankees are in the thick of a race for the American League East title. As they jockey back and forth with the Orioles, it has become clear that the team needs better performances from some of their players. While DJ LeMahieu and Alex Verdugo have struggled at the plate, they have not shown enough to be breakout candidates down the stretch. Carlos Rodon, Anthony Rizzo, and Oswaldo Cabrera must be those breakout players for the Yankees to win the division.

8/23/24 Yankees' DJ LeMahieu suffers frightening injury scare before Rockies game. A career-worst season for DJ LeMahieu just got a bit more brutal. The two-time batting champion “took a ball to the face during warmups,” went down in pain and was evaluated by the New York Yankees training staff, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Luckily, he reached his feet and walked into the clubhouse, so a serious injury has seemingly been avoided.

8/21/24 Yankees don't 'have to keep grinding' with DJ LeMahieu as output draws comps to recent exiles. DJ LeMahieu hasn't enjoyed many good games this season, but Tuesday's 12-inning, 9-5 loss to the Guardians made a case for rock bottom. Subscribe to continue reading this article. Already subscribed? 8/20/24 Yankees manager Aaron Boone's DJ LeMahieu stance sparks fan outrage. New York Yankees fans are still reeling from their team's brutal 9-5 loss in extra innings to the Cleveland Guardians at home on Tuesday. As NY supporters look for anything (or anyone) to blame for the team's ongoing malaise, it comes as no surprise that many of them have targeted struggling Yankees first baseman DJ LeMahieu, who just had another putrid night at the plate. The 36-year-old LeMahieu went just 0-for-5 in the series opener against the Guardians. For what it's worth, LeMahieu struck out just once, but that was in the bottom of the 11th inning when there were two runners on base.

8/08/24 DJ LeMahieu can prove his Yankees resurgence is for real. The man nicknamed the Machine knew a part of him was malfunctioning, and yet he could not troubleshoot it while he was still plugged in. Then the Yankees unplugged DJ LeMahieu for five straight games at the end of July, plugged him back in and suddenly found him humming again. The potential fix came with a small sample size of just three starts, but with the Yankees facing a stretch of three lefties in four games beginning Thursday, LeMahieu will have a chance to prove that he has actually turned a corner in what has been a mostly brutal season. 3 DJ LeMahieu hits a double in the fourth inning against the Los Angeles Angels. 8/05/24 Yankees' DJ LeMahieu turning summer slump to 'deserving' surge. The reactions from Yankees players and coaches as they watched DJ LeMahieu line a walk-off single into center field on Sunday will tell you everything you need to know about the respect the veteran infielder carries in that clubhouse. Sure, after sitting through a rain delay and playing into extra innings, those in the Yankees' dugout would've been overjoyed regardless of who delivered the game-winning hit.

7/28/24 Tanner Houck falls behind early, Red Sox can't catch up in loss to Yankees. The infield came in but DJ LeMahieu lofted a sacrifice fly, scoring yet another insurance run for the Yankees. The Sox would go on to lose, 8-2. “I don't think a nine-game stretch defines who we are,” said manager Alex Cora. Tanner Houck kept the game from getting out of hand, giving the Sox six innings and yielding just three earned runs.

7/24/24 Breaking down five key Yankees-Mets season matchups and who has edge. DJ LeMahieu and Jeff McNeil each hit a homer Saturday and if you were looking at it as a sign of the apocalypse, sure, why not? That duo had not homered on the same day since April 8, 2022 and, heck, they had only driven in a run of any kind on the same day this season on June 28. These were two former batting champs — LeMahieu twice, once in each league — who had fallen, couldn't get up, couldn't hit the ball hard (or out of the infield much, especially LeMahieu), were hurting their lineups and were albatrosses on their team's payrolls through (looking this up to confirm) 2026. So any nuggets of positivism are cherished — and McNeil has had a moment of revival. He has begun to both swing the

7/21/24 Yankees sit struggling DJ LeMahieu — and it might be more than a one-off. Before this year, when DJ LeMahieu has struggled this badly at the plate, there has usually been an injury-related reason for it. But the Yankees' 36-year-old third baseman insisted on Sunday he was fully healthy, despite batting just .177 with a .471 OPS through 39 games. “I feel good,” LeMahieu said Sunday morning in The Bronx. “Feel good. Feel good enough to do my job.” The Yankees sat DJ LeMahieu for Sunday's game against the Rays. 7/07/24 Yankees' DJ LeMahieu insists he's not 'beat up' despite 'brutal' stretch since injury return. Coming off his second two-hit game in the past week, DJ LeMahieu still had a one-word description of how this season has gone for him so far: “Brutal.” Most fans would agree with that evaluation of LeMahieu, who turns 36 next week and dealt with toe and foot injuries each of the past three seasons. And he has looked bad on the basepaths in a pair of recent games, leading Aaron Boone to suggest that he may have been “a little beat up.” DJ LeMahieu described his start to the 2024 season as “brutal.” Charles Wenzelberg Prior to Sunday's series finale against the Red Sox in The Bronx, LeMahieu said that wasn't the case. “I'm good,'' LeMahieu said. With a spotlight placed on DJ LeMahieu's running , Yankees manager Aaron Boone allowed the infielder may be “a little bit beat up.” LeMahieu did not appear to be all-out sprinting on the way to first base during what turned out to be a fielder's choice in the third inning of Friday's loss. 7/03/24 Struggling Yankees player is 'completely shot,' host says. Publicly, the New York Yankees continue to support struggling infielder DJ LeMahieu, with hitting coach James Rowson saying last week he was “encouraged” with his recent batted balls, despite the lack of results. Privately, it would not be surprising if they were concerned because LeMahieu is batting .180 with no home runs and a 39 OPS+ (100 is average) in 103 plate appearances, and if they won't say it directly, New York hosts will.
