4/29/24 Connections between Cleveland baseball and the Phillies. Do you remember Asdrubal Cabrera? He was a middle infielder who played for both the Indians (currently the Guardians) and Phillies - briefly for 49 games for the Fightins'. Cabrera hit five homers with 17 RBIs and hit .228. Overall, a total of 269 players (96 pitchers) have played for both clubs between 1892 and 2023. In 1892, Gus Weyhing played for the Phillies, and later played for Cleveland (1901). In 2022, Brad Hand pitched for the Phillies, and earlier threw for Cleveland (2018-2020), as did Michael Kelly with the Phillies in 2022 and the Guardians in 2023. In this weeks' version of my Behind the Plate column - past and present trends with the Phillies, Mets and Yankees, as well as the overall

Atlanta will pay a $500k buyout. Hand, 33, was acquired by the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline from the Colorado Rockies for minor leaguer Alex Barger. 9/18/23 Atlanta Braves Continue to Search for Another Lefty. Atlanta Braves Continue to Search for Another Lefty Not long ago you might have wondered if the Atlanta Braves had too many lefties in the bullpen, but now they're searching for a second one. Author: Jake Mastroianni Publish date: Sep 18, 2023 6:38 PM EDT Not long ago you might have wondered if the Atlanta Braves had too many lefties in the bullpen, but now they're searching for a second one. When the Atlanta Braves traded for Brad Hand at the deadline it made sense to get some insurance with Dylan Lee on the injured list. Assuming Lee came back healthy and effective, the question then was -- will the Braves carry three lefties in its bullpen for the postseason? But Lee struggled coming

6/07/23 Wednesday Rockpile: Evaluating stock of some bullpen trade assets. As June begins to play out, before we know it the August 1 deadline will be upon us and we'll be having plenty of discussions about what the Colorado Rockies did or did not do by that time. Stuck in the lower part of the division and fighting to stay out of the basement in the National League in general, it feels fairly certain that the Rockies could and should be sellers over the next month or two. As we take stock of the pieces the team has in stock, we first look at the bullpen and the veterans the team brought in over the offseason. When the Rockies signed Brad Hand to a one-year deal during spring training, it was essentially a pivot move of desperation after the loss of Lucas Gilbreath.

3/06/23 Reliever Brad Hand guaranteed $2M in deal with Rockies. Reliever Brad Hand is guaranteed $2 million in his one-year contract with the Colorado Rockies and the three-time All-Star would make $11.5 million over two years if he starts this season in the major leagues and pitches at least 60 games annually. The contract includes a $7 million team option for 2024 with a $500,000 buyout. In addition, Hand could earn $1 million each year in performance bonuses for games pitched: $250,000 each for 40 and 50, and $500,000 for 60.

11/01/22 Passan: How velocity is ruling this postseason -- and who is bringing the most heat in this World Series. That was merely an appetizer: Three more sinkers clocked in at 100.6, 100.8 and 101.2 mph before Alvarado threw his version of an off-speed pitch, a 95 mph cutter. He finished his scoreless outing with one last sinker at 99.9 mph and decamped for the bench, job complete. Teammate Brad Hand marveled from the bullpen, not just at what Alvarado did but at how triple-digit fastballs are no longer the domain of a select few.

9/20/22 Way down we go: Blue Jays 18, Phillies 11. And then Brad Hand entered the game. Hand gave up four runs in 0.2 innings, the big blow being a three-run home run by Jackie Bradley, Jr. You may recognize Bradley as being one of the worst offensive players in baseball over the past two seasons. Even he didn’t have much better with the pitches that Hand is serving up these days.

9/03/22 Defensive miscues sink slumping Phillies in 5-4 loss to Giants. Start here: Making his first appearance since Monday, lefty reliever Brad Hand entered a tie game in the sixth inning, threw 38 pitches, and walked in the go-ahead run after Giants manager Gabe Kapler marched out four — count ‘em, four! consecutive pinch hitters in the baseball equivalent of a hockey line change. Let the record also reflect that the Phillies went 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position and were unable to drive in the tying run from third base with no outs in the seventh inning...

6/19/22 Phillies Vs. Nationals: Time to Make Seranthony Dominguez the Closer?. Brad Hand couldn't hold a one-run lead in the ninth, but the Phils were still able to pull off the win, 2-1, in 10 innings thanks to a go-ahead hit by Rhys Hoskins and door-slam save from Seranthony Dominguez. The win improved the Phillies (36-31) to a season-best five games over . incredible considering they closed out the month of May eight games under .

6/17/22 Phillies hold off Nationals, 5-3, for third straight win. But lefty Ranger Suárez gave up a two-out, two-run homer to Josh Bell in the sixth inning, and interim manager Rob Thomson had to go to the bullpen earlier than he hoped. Brogdon settled everything down, at least until closer du jour Brad Hand walked a ninth-inning tightrope by putting two runners on base and bringing the winning run to the plate with one out. More on that in a bit.

4/12/22 Joe Girardi on Corey Knebel's absence: 'He's got some flu-like symptoms...'. When the Philadelphia Phillies' offense scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth against the New York Mets on Monday night to take a one-run lead, Brad Hand started to warm up in the bullpen, not closer Corey Knebel. Given the fact that it was a save situation and he had not pitched on Sunday, Knebel's absence from the bullpen seemed unusual. In his postgame press conference, Phillies Manager Joe Girardi clarified that Knebel has been suffering from an illness.

3/25/22 Scott Kingery Sent to Minor League Camp. He’s owed $6 million this year, which is the same as what Brad Hand and Jeurys Familia are earning. The contract goes to $8.2 million next year and then there are club options with a $1 million buyout trigger. Kingery was one of the myriad guys the Phillies tried to put in center field last year, to keep Odubel Herrera out of the picture.

3/22/22 Domínguez, Maton Impress in Phillies Win Over Tigers. Other bullpen newcomer Brad Hand was scheduled to pitch next and tossed a scoreless third, with Nick Maton making an impressive diving catch to end the inning. At that point, offense remained quiet on both sides, until Maton led off the Phillies' half of the third with a double for Philadelphia's first hit of the day. Simon Muzziotti singled sharply to right field to drive in Maton to put the Phillies on the board first, 1-0.
