9/19/24 Stephen Vogt finds a pinch of success in extra innings: Guardians breakfast. Prior to Wednesday's game against Minnesota, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt was asked how hard it is for a young player, especially somebody who is not seeing regular playing time, to come off the bench late in a game and find success as a pinch hitter. Vogt said his job as a manager is to find the right matchups at the right time and hopefully put that player in the best position to succeed. “I don't like pitch hitting,” Vogt admitted. Just a few hours after making those remarks, Vogt seemed to push all the right buttons, sending pinch-hitters Kyle Manzardo and Will Brennan to the plate in the 10th inning and watching both come through with RBI base hits as the Guardians rallied for a 5-4 walk-off win against the Twins in extra innings.

9/16/24 Guardians injury updates on Steven Kwan, Alex Cobb and Carlos Carrasco. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt provided updates Monday on a few injured players, beginning with All-Star left fielder Steven Kwan, who has been sidelined since Friday with a sore back. Vogt said Kwan is making progress and that he would participate in some “rotational exercises” prior to Monday's series opener against the Twins at Progressive Field. “They're going to get after it pretty good,” Vogt said. Kwan was mired in a 1 for 31 hitting slump prior to Cleveland's series sweep in Chicago last week, but was batting .385 with six walks in 19 plate appearances over his last four games prior to the injury.

9/15/24 Guardians Skipper Hints At Bringing Back Former Gold Glove Winner. The Cleveland Guardians' outfielder remains a revolving door of prospects and veterans that the organization hopes will become mainstays in the lineup. With no one proving to be an everyday player, the front office and coaching staff may look to bring back a player they let go of back in March. Stephen Vogt was asked on Saturday about how Myles Straw could factor into the center field equation moving forward. Cleveland's manager was surprisingly candid about the possibility of adding Straw back to the major league roster.

9/14/24 Guardians Manager Discusses Playing In Potential Postseason Series. The Cleveland Guardians have been one of baseball's best teams all season, and they're in a great position to participate in the playoffs this year. Cleveland's manager, Stephen Vogt, reflected on this potential opportunity to play meaningful baseball deep into October. "I can't wait to watch our guys play in big games later in the year and every night," said Vogt.

9/09/24 Guardians Recall Starting Pitcher In Latest Roster Moves. The Cleveland Guardians still can't seem to find consistency with their starting rotation, so on Monday afternoon, ahead of their series opener with the Chicago White Sox, they had to make more roster moves. Stephen Vogt revealed on Sunday night that Ben Lively, who was supposed to start against the White Sox on Monday, would be pushed back. The organization had already made the decision to recall rookie left-hander Joey Cantillo from Triple-A to make the start. Cantillo will make his fifth start of the season on Monday.

9/08/24 Day off a chance to beat the heat for slumping leadoff man: Guardians takeaways. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said giving leadoff hitter Steven Kwan a day off Sunday made sense for a variety of reasons. Temperatures in southern California soared to 103 degrees near game time, and Cleveland's Gold Glove left fielder has been anything but hot at the plate lately. Kwan has one hit in his last 31 plate appearances and his season batting average has dipped to .288 after topping out at .398 back in July. “Kwannie is going through it, you know?” Vogt said.

9/07/24 Guardians relief weapon gets big injury update. The Cleveland Guardians are on their way to the postseason, as the team currently leads the AL Central by four and a half games. The team beat the NL West leading Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday evening and plays the second game in their three-game set Saturday evening. On Friday, manager Stephen Vogt discussed the rehab of various players, including reliever James Karinchak. According to the first-year skipper, the high-leverage reliever might be back by the time the season ends.

9/04/24 Stephen Vogt steers clear of scoreboard watching during magic number season: Guardians takeaways. Vogt will let others keep an eye on the scores while he focuses on the game in front of him. “It's pretty simple for me,” Vogt said. Cleveland entered play Wednesday with a magic number of 20 to clinch an American League Central Division title, and 14 to clinch at least a wild card spot.

8/26/24 Stephen Vogt Reacts To Cleveland Guardians' Doubleheader Loss To Kansas City Royals. The Cleveland Guardians' lead in the American League Central is once again down to just 1.0 game. Stephen Vogt talked to the media following the game and admitted it was a rough day for his team. Vogt's message to the team hasn't changed.

8/24/24 Stephen Vogt Reacts To Lane Thomas, Cleveland Guardians' Offensive Troubles. The Cleveland Guardians continue to look to get back on track with their bats. Stephen Vogt was specifically asked about Lane Thomas' at-bats against the Rangers. The right-handed hitter was 0-for-3 from the plate and struck out twice but was responsible for one of Cleveland's runs with a sacrifice fly.

8/23/24 Could a change in direction benefit slumping hitters? Guardians takeaways. When he was slumping as a player, Stephen Vogt says he always tried to hit a ball hard on the ground to the opposite side of the infield. “That got me back in the right direction,” Vogt said before the Guardians' series opener Friday against Texas. What worked for Vogt might not resonate the same for a Guardians lineup that is in desperate need of a spark as it embarks on a 10-game homestand.

8/22/24 Sputtering Cleveland Guardians Clinging To AL Central Lead. The good news is the Cleveland Guardians' road trip is finally over. Manager Stephen Vogt's band of not-so-merry men returned to Cleveland Thursday night licking their wounds, following a humbling, and at times bumbling six-game trip to Milwaukee and New York, in which Cleveland won every game but five. The Guardians have been in first place in the AL Central every day since April 14, but you would not know it by their visits to Milwaukee and New York. If you take out the Guards' only win on the trip, a wild 9-5, 12-inning slugfest over the Yankees, Cleveland was outscored 23-5 in the other five games of the trip.

8/21/24 Guardians' Stephen Vogt reacts to winning longest game of season vs. Yankees. Stephen Vogt and the Cleveland Guardians took down the New York Yankees in the longest game played on the 2024 schedule. Vogt gave credit to both teams for outlasting the barnburner, but was more impressed to see his Guardians come out on top. Cleveland won 9-5 in a game that went 12 innings. Vogt felt excited, but mainly relieved to earn the victory, via the Associated Press.

8/18/24 The Slumping Cleveland Guardians Have Hit A Speed Bump. The Cleveland Guardians have been in first place in the American League's Central Division since April 14. Since then there have been times, multiple times, that Cleveland has had the best record in the major leagues. A lot is happening now to the Guardians, and their rookie manager Stephen Vogt, most of it bad. The Guardians have lost 10 of their last 15 games.

8/12/24 Stephen Vogt grateful for a closer willing to walk the high wire: Guardians takeaways. When Guardians manager Stephen Vogt was playing his last season with Oakland in 2022, ex-Tigers skipper Brad Ausmus was the bench coach. Vogt said he learned a lot from talking to Ausmus that year, including what makes a closer like Emmanuel Clase so good under pressure.

8/10/24 Gavin Williams Had A 'Different Demeanor' Leading Up To Guardians Win Over Twins. The Cleveland Guardians were on a season-high seven-game losing streak heading into Saturday night's matchup against the Minnesota Twins. Williams pitched 6.0 innings, gave up four hits, allowed one earned run, struck out three batters, and issued no walks. This was easily the best start of the season for Williams, who missed the first half of the season rehabbing. Stephen Vogt was not surprised by Williams' performance.

8/07/24 Guardians provide a little clarity on pitching rotation, status of ace right-hander. Forecasting the Guardians' starting pitching rotation has not been easy over the last week to ten days, but manager Stephen Vogt provided a little clarity about where things are heading, as well as the status of ace right-hander Tanner Bibee prior to Wednesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks. Bibee has not pitched since July 29 in Detroit and is dealing with shoulder tightness that has bothered him all season.

8/07/24 Diamondbacks, Guardians postponed by rain, wet field. Teams playing doubleheader Wednesday. Heavy rain and wet field conditions forced the postponement of Tuesday night’s game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians. The teams make it up as part of a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday. The first game will start at 1:10 p.m. With thousands of fans inside Progressive Field, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt and GM Mike Chernoff were part of a group that inspected the grass in left field at 7:30 p.m. before the postponement was announced 40 minutes later. About three hours before the scheduled 6:40 start, violent thunderstorms rolled into the area and a tornado warning was issued, forcing ballpark employees to take shelter in the ballpark’s lower level.
