9/18/24 Cards' Sonny Gray looks to continue torrid stretch vs. Pirates. In a season full of disappointment for the St. Louis Cardinals, Sonny Gray is beginning to meet the expectations that came shortly after he signed a three-year, $75 million contract. Gray (13-9, 3.75 ERA) has allowed just three runs on nine hits over 19 innings in his past three starts. The right-hander struck out 20 batters and walked only three during that span. Gray will try to extend his strong finish Wednesday when the Cardinals face the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third contest of a four-game series in St. Louis.

9/09/24 Cardinals Should Target Projected $48 Million Star To Fill Biggest Hole. If the St. Louis Cardinals want to go back to being a contender in 2025, they need to take a serious look at the top of the starting rotation. Having Sonny Gray at the top of the rotation is a great start. One player who could fit this description well without breaking the bank is former New York Yankees and current New York Mets star Luis Severino. Severino has regained his form this season as a member of the Mets and has a 3.74 ERA through 28 starts.

8/26/24 Cardinals Could Snatch Superstar Ace In Winter Blockbuster Signing. The St. Louis Cardinals need to take a serious look at the starting rotation this winter. St. Louis has attempted to stay the course and improve the club without making large investments. The Cardinals signed Sonny Gray last year, but outside of that deal focused on bounce-back candidates to inexpensive deals. The Cardinals mightily struggled last year and currently sit at 65-65 on the season.

8/24/24 Sonny Gray's Eye-Opening Admission On Leaving Twins In Free Agency. St. Louis Cardinals star Sonny Gray will be facing his former team in the Minnesota Twins Saturday night as he also reminisced on his time with the ball club in an interview with Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune. There was a ton of interest from other teams in Gray like the San Francisco Giants in free agency last offseason, but ended up going to the Cardinals on a three-year, $75 million contract.

8/24/24 Cardinals' Sonny Gray back in Minnesota to face old mates. Sonny Gray will return to the ballpark he called home for the past two seasons when the St. Louis Cardinals play the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night in Minneapolis. Gray, who signed a three-year, $75 million contract with the Cardinals as a free agent during the offseason, said he is looking forward to pitching against his former team. Neither he nor the Twins' fan base seem to hold any hard feelings over his departure from Minnesota, which was fueled by finances. "I knew pretty early on throughout the free agency process that this wasn't going to be a place that I was going to come back to," said Gray, a right-hander.

8/13/24 Cardinals muster an Arenado solo homer, nothing else in another loss to Reds. The Cardinals are on the brink of etching another disappointing season in stone?—and as has been the case for the majority of this 2024 season, an underperforming offense is to blame. The Cardinals fell to the Reds at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati on Tuesday night, dropping game two of the three-game set by a score of 4-1. Like Sonny Gray on Monday, Cardinals starter Erick Fedde sparred with the tight confines of the Reds home stadium and lost the bout, allowing a pair of home runs across six innings of work.

8/13/24 Reds beat Cardinals 6-1. During his first time through the Reds batting order on Monday night, the Cardinals' Sonny Gray recorded seven strikeouts and appeared to be in total control of the game. Two pitches in the third inning changed that and also changed the game's outcome. Spencer Steer launched a two-run homer and on Gray's next pitch Elly De La Cruz also homered to put the Reds in front.

8/07/24 Two-run homers secure Cardinals' 4-3 win over Rays. It was another night when the St. Louis Cardinals failed to get a hit with a runner in scoring position, but this time, it didn't matter. The Cardinals' two big hits came with a runner on first base – a pair of two-out, two-run homers in the second inning that gave Sonny Gray enough offense for a victory over the Rays at Busch Stadium. Victor Scott II hit the first home run of his major-league career, and after Masyn Winn was hit by a pitch, Tommy Pham hit his second home run since being traded back to the Cardinals last week.

8/01/24 Cardinals' Sonny Gray gets real about start in painful loss to Cubs. The St. Louis Cardinals know that if there was ever a time for them to make a run in the NL Wild Card standings, it's now. Gray did his part to put the Cardinals in a position to win. Locked in as he usually has been throughout 2024, Gray pitched seven quality innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out nine Cubs batters.

7/31/24 Cards' Sonny Gray eyes turnaround, starting vs. Cubs. 7/19/24 Cardinals Reportedly Could Pursue Rangers Star Fireballer At Trade Deadline. The St. Louis Cardinals have one clear need heading into the upcoming trade deadline. St. Louis' offense finally has started to click and the bullpen has been a weapon for the Cardinals after a dismal 2023 season. St. Louis' biggest need -- like this past offseason -- still is adding another starting pitcher. The Cardinals did a good job this past offseason by adding Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson in free agency but there still is more work to be done and it's clear that the Cardinals are looking.
