9/06/24 SF Giants' youth movement provides good, bad and ugly moments in loss to Padres. Out of the playoff race, the Giants are committed to playing the kids this September. Making his second spot start in place of Robbie Ray, Mason Black surrendered four of the Padres runs and put the Giants (69-73) in an early hole. Three of the Padres' four runs came in the first inning, aided by some shoddy defense, and Black rebounded to retire 13 of the final 16 batters he faced before being chased from the game after back-to-back two-out base hits in the fifth.

9/05/24 San Francisco Giants Cy Young Award Winner Named Team's 'Worst' Bang-for-Buck Player. The San Francisco Giants have tried to make moves over the past few offseasons to improve their roster. On paper, one could argue that this is one of the more talented teams in Major League Baseball. Unfortunately, barring something drastic happening, the Giants are essentially out of the playoff race. Of those players is Robbie Ray, a left-handed pitcher who had big hopes for when he joined San Francisco.

8/27/24 SF Giants' rotation takes a blow as Robbie Ray lands on IL. Already facing an uphill climb to the postseason, the Giants now will be without one-fifth of their rotation for almost half of their remaining schedule. Robbie Ray was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday after an MRI revealed a strain in his left hamstring, the team announced. Manager Bob Melvin is expected to provide more details when he addresses reporters before the start of their series against the Brewers, including plans to cover Ray's spot in the starting rotation.

8/27/24 If Ray hits injured list, pressure mounts again on SF Giants' rotation. Robbie Ray made his long-awaited season debut on July 24, finally giving the Giants the makings of a traditional five-man rotation. Whether it was Ray or Logan Webb or Blake Snell or Kyle Harrison or Hayden Birdsong, San Francisco, in theory, had someone capable of providing length. Roughly a month later, the Giants, again, find themselves looking for answers. Ray left his start on Sunday due to hamstring tightness.

8/25/24 Giants' rotation in precarious situation as Ray awaits MRI. The San Francisco Giants' painful MLB playoff push absorbed another gut punch when starting pitcher Robbie Ray was forced out of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Mariners with a strained left hamstring in the fourth innning.

8/23/24 Veteran San Francisco Giants Pitcher Not Expected to Opt Out of Contract. The San Francisco Giants could lose a couple of star players to contract options after this season, but at least one pitcher is expected to stick around. As MLB.com's Mark Feisand looked through the biggest names that have upcoming options to figure out what they might do, he figured out left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray's future fairly easily. When the Giants traded for Ray back in January, he came with the contract that he signed with the Seattle Mariners back in 2022. San Francisco traded for him after he had already underwent Tommy John surgery, so it's not like it was a big surprise that he started the season late.

8/21/24 Robbie Ray Strikes Out 9 as the Giants Beat the White Sox. Robbie Ray matched his season high with nine strikeouts, and the San Francisco Giants beat the lowly Chicago White Sox 4-1 on Tuesday night. After failing to get out of the first inning in his last start against the Braves, Ray (3-2) limited Chicago to one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings. “Man, that was really good,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said.

8/14/24 SF Giants' playoff hopes take another hit in drubbing by Braves. The Giants' playoff hopes aren't dead, but they've made their jobs much more difficult. Needing to secure at least a split of this four-game series against the Braves to capture a potentially important head-to-head tiebreaker, the Giants did themselves no favors by dropping the first two contests and by the time they came to bat Wednesday could pretty much kiss those hopes goodbye. A game that was about as must-win as they come began with a clunker of epic proportions from Robbie Ray and ended, 13-2, with another left-hander — outfielder Mike Yastrzemski — having about as much luck finding the strike zone to the amusement of the 27,460 who stuck around for the drubbing. Dropping their fourth straight game, the loss guaranteed that no matter the outcome of Sunday's series finale the Giants will have an extra game to make up by way of losing the season series and the potential determining factor should they to catch Atlanta in the win-loss column, where the gap grew to 4½ games.

8/09/24 No-hit for 6 innings, SF Giants rally late for improbable win over Tigers. On a night where Robbie Ray didn't have his best fastball or his best command, when their touch-and-go offense was held hitless for six innings, the Giants still managed to pull out the unlikeliest of victories Friday to begin a crucial home stand. Ray turned in his longest outing yet since returning from Tommy John surgery and was still out of the game by the time his run support arrived, but the Giants' bats woke up just in time to walk off the Tigers, 3-2, and move two games over .500 for the first time since the end of May. It's wins like these that will be required if the Giants hope to do more than keep pace in the National League wild card race.

8/04/24 Trio of home runs power SF Giants to rare road series win over Reds. Bob Melvin laid out two imperatives in recent days. The Giants needed to start racking up series wins, and they would have to do so on the road, where they have played the fifth-worst baseball of any team this season. Romping over the Reds, 8-2, they checked both boxes Sunday afternoon. Robbie Ray struck out nine over five innings while limiting the Reds to a pair of back-to-back solo home runs, and the Giants got their own power display from Matt Chapman, LaMonte Wade Jr. and Tyler Fitzgerald, whose homers accounted for all the runs San Francisco would need to secure a win in the series' rubber game.

7/30/24 SF Giants fall to A's in first game since standing pat at MLB trade deadline. Hours after Farhan Zaidi declared that the Giants were putting their postseason hopes in the hands of a starting rotation he called the “best in baseball” and a young core that had “been the catalyst for some of our best play,” the lowly A's knocked around their starting pitcher and held their lineup in check. In a 5-2 loss Tuesday night to their last-place cross-bay rivals on the same day they largely stood pat at MLB's trade deadline, Robbie Ray served up three home runs and put his team in four-run hole that they were unable to overcome against his counterpart, fellow lefty J.P. Sears, who blanked the Giants for seven innings. The loss snapped the Giants' season-long winning streak at four games and prevented them from picking up a game on the Padres, who fell to the Dodgers but remain four games ahead for the final National League wild card spot with another three teams in between. Making his second start in return from Tommy John surgery, Ray's first time pitching at Oracle Park didn't go as smoothly as his re-entry to the major leagues last week at Dodger Stadium, when he struck out eight over five hitless innings.

7/28/24 San Francisco Giants Ace Garnering Interest from New York Yankees. The San Francisco Giants are a team that many people are keeping an eye on with just two days until the MLB trade deadline. San Francisco is only 4.5 games behind the New York Mets for the final Wild Card spot in the NL and are getting healthy at the right time. Robbie Ray is back, and Alex Cobb should be able to contribute to the Major League team soon, providing more insurance behind Logan Webb.
