After being designated for assignment by the New York Mets , the 32-year-old outfielder was claimed by the Houston Astros, according to his transaction page . Gamel's debut will mark the eighth MLB team he has played for, and this one will be for one that holds a five-game lead in the American League West. With the Mets, who DFA'd him after activating Starling Marte , Gamel had five hits in 30 plate appearances (.217 average) and had a .661 OPS.
