7/02/24 Diamondbacks peg Joe Mantiply as opener at Dodgers. The Arizona Diamondbacks updated their pitching plans for Tuesday's series opener at the Los Angeles Dodgers with left-handed reliever Joe Mantiply pegged as the opener. Mantiply will be given the task of facing Dodgers left-handed sluggers Shohei Ohtani (1.039 OPS) and Freddie Freeman (.900 OPS) in the first inning. Right-hander Ryne Nelson was scheduled to start. The D-backs started Mantiply against the Dodgers back on May 20, and he gave Arizona a scoreless inning.

5/19/24 Diamondbacks rolling with Joe Mantiply as opener against Dodgers. The Arizona Diamondbacks will start reliever Joe Mantiply as an opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday at Chavez Ravine, manager Torey Lovullo announced. Slade Cecconi was probable to start, but Lovullo said he will be available in relief. Mantiply, a southpaw, will face a top of the Dodgers' lineup that includes left-handed-hitting superstars Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.

5/08/24 Diamondbacks survive nail-biting 9th inning to win series at Reds. Diamondbacks southpaw Joe Mantiply stranded runners on second and third in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark on Wednesday. Arizona captured the opening two contests of the series and won a third straight game for the first time this season. The D-backs opted not to use their closer fresh off the injured list, as Kevin Ginkel received the opportunity to save the ballgame over Paul Sewald — who made his season debut Tuesday.
