9/13/24 | The Jewish Sport Report: This week's top 6 Jewish baseball moments. It seems like Garrett Stubbs and Max Lazar have a knack for making Jewish baseball history. The Philadelphia Phillies teammates, who along with Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Joc Pederson became the third-ever Jewish pitcher-catcher-batter trio last month, made similar history on Sunday. As the Phillies were getting blown out 10-1 by the Miami Marlins, Lazar (a pitcher) and Stubbs (a catcher) both took the mound for the Phils. According to the Jewish Baseball Museum, that makes them only the fourth pair of Jewish teammates to pitch for the same team in the same game. When the Oakland Athletics routed his first-place Philadelphia Phillies 18-3, Stubbs, the backup catcher, was on the mound in the ninth when Zack Gelof hit a grand slam. It was, according to the Jewish Baseball Museum, the first-ever grand slam hit by a Jewish batter off a Jewish position player. Source: https://www.clevelandjewishnews.com/jta/philadelph... |
