Much of what Marcus Thames does is encourage and lift up for those who are down. On a White Sox team last in baseball in too many categories to mention, many of them on the offensive side, Thames has patted a lot of backs this season. Luis Robert Jr.'s stats are still not pretty, but the White Sox center fielder has shown signs he might be breaking out of a season-long offensive funk. After going 2-for-4 in Friday night's 5-2 loss to the Tigers, Robert was hitting .378 (14-for-37) in his last nine games with two homers and six RBI. “The at-bats did improve [on the just-concluded road trip],” interim manager Grady Sizemore said before the game. Pinch-hitter Jon Singleton hit a solo home run for Houston off Chad Kuhl with two outs in the ninth to cut it to 5-4. But Kuhl struck out Jose Altuve to end it and get his first save.
