| 8/07/24 | ANDY AMEY: How Nick Madrigal symbolizes Chicago baseball. The 2024 Chicago White Sox failed to lose their 22nd straight game (I think the major-league record is 23). The big record for futility — the 40-120-1 record compiled by the 1962 Mets — is still in play, however, and I think the Sox can make it, particularly since they've traded away almost every player that might have helped them do otherwise. A glance at the roster of the '62 Mets make them look like the '27 Yankees by comparison, and they had Casey Stengel in the dugout. The Sox are getting prospects in return, which can be a good strategy — until you remember that the Sox were also the franchise that drafted Nick Madrigal (small, slow, not very good defensively, no power, weak arm) with the fourth pick in the entire draft a few years ago.
