9/05/24 | Justin Martinez, A.J. Puk are closer options for D-backs. No closer has been formally named despite Martinez receiving those opportunities for weeks. Sewald has not performed to a point where his reinstatement is obvious, despite manager Torey Lovullo's comments that the best version of this bullpen has a clicking Sewald on the back end. Lovullo said Martinez is on the right track, but what would the D-backs do if the postseason started today? Source: https://arizonasports.com/story/3556996/justin-mar... |
7/20/24 | Whose Talent Would You Steal Off the Arizona Diamondbacks?. The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team on the rise. How many players across the league or in the D-backs' clubhouse wish they had Justin Martinez's velocity, Merrill Kelly's changeup, Corbin Carroll's speed, and so on. 6/07/24 | Seams like old times: A forgotten pitch is making a comeback across MLB, helping DBacks. 5/30/24 | Diamondbacks P Justin Martinez's parents watch him for 1st time. Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Justin Martinez had himself a day at Citi Field against the New York Mets on Thursday, albeit in a 3-2 loss. Not only did Martinez get through a career-high 3.0 innings with no runs, but he pitched in front of his parents for the first time as a major leaguer. D-backs starter Zac Gallen suffered a right hamstring strain in the first inning, putting the onus on the bullpen to get through the game. 5/10/24 | Can Justin Martinez become a reliable arm for the Diamondbacks?. Young right-handed pitcher Justin Martinez's reliability in the Arizona Diamondbacks' bullpen is becoming less of a fantasy and something to monitor. Manager Torey Lovullo called his name in a higher leverage moment than usual Friday at the Baltimore Orioles on a nationally-televised stage against the American League's best team. Martinez took the ball with one out and a runner on second base down 4-2, in danger of letting the game get away with Baltimore's No. 2 hitter Adley Rutschman digging in. Following an intentional walk to Ryan O'Hearn, Martinez punched out Ryan Mountcastle on three pitches: a 100 mph sinker on the low-outside corner, 101 mph sinker up-and-in and a splitter that dodged low-and-away past Mountcastle's bat.
